Book About Providence Pro Hockey Now Available

Providence, RI (October 22, 2006): The Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society has announced the publishing and release of the book titled “Hockey in Providence.” The manuscript is an historical account of professional hockey in Rhode Island, which dates back to 1926.

In its 128 pages, “Hockey in Providence” is packed with historical notes and over 200 photos, past and present, representing the old R. I. Reds and the more recent Providence Bruins.

Earlier this year the 600-member society and others worked with noted hockey historian Jim Mancuso to write the book that was recently printed by Arcadia Publishing of Portsmouth, NH.

The Reds were one of the first professional hockey teams in the United States. In their 51-year history (1926-1977) the team won seven playoff championships, including four American Hockey League Calder Cup titles.

The Providence Bruins reunited Rhode Island with the AHL in 1992 and added a fifth Calder Cup for Rhode Island in 1999.

The book is on sale through the R. I. Reds Heritage Society at $20 per copy, plus $5 for shipping and handling. For more information call 401-247-2666 or order from the society’s web site at www.rireds.org.
