Providence, RI (October 21, 2007): The Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society will take part in a global hockey research meeting to be held in Springfield, MA, next weekend, October 26-28.

The Reds' invitation came recently from the Society for International Hockey Research (SIHR), an established and growing network of hockey writers, statisticians, collectors, broadcasters and academics throughout the world.

Buster Clegg, president of the R. I. Reds Heritage Society, will be one of several guest speakers at the event. He will recount the Reds' 51-year history (1926-1977) in pro hockey, first in the Canadian-American League and then the American Hockey League, and also talk about the team's 650-member historical society, believed to be the only one of its kind in hockey.

Other guest speakers will include Ed (Teddy) Shore, Jr., son of the late, legendary Hall of Fame member and onetime colorful owner of the Springfield Indians. Also scheduled to speak are Jimmy Anderson, former great Indians' left winger who is the team's all-time leading goal scorer (426), and Bruce Landon, owner and president of today's AHL Springfield Falcons.

SIHR was formed in 1991 by 17 founders and today has a total of 410 members. Its members are from all over the world, including Canada, the United States, England, Scotland, France, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria, Italy and even Japan.
