Reds Add 9 More Players and Extend Reunion Sign-up Deadline

Providence, RI (July 16, 2006): The Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society’s 6th annual reunion will enjoy the participation of nine Rhode Island natives who formerly played professional hockey.

The four Bennett brothers --- Curt, Bill, Harvey, Jr., and Jim --- all will be on hand at Goddard State Park in Warwick for the August 6 event that starts at noon. Other ex-pro Rhode Islanders expected are Don Mellor, his son Tom, Eddie Lee, Tim Army and his brother Bill.

The society also has announced that the deadline for reunion reservations has been extended by two weeks to July 29. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children ages 6-12, and kids under age 6 will be admitted free. The event will include an all-you-can-eat buffet, individual introductions of players, presentation of the 2006-07 “Tops Award” and a raffle of many gift prizes.

The reunion’s theme will be a special 50th anniversary tribute to the Reds’ last Calder Cup championship team of 1955-56. Seven players from that club have signed on to attend: Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Johnny Bower, defensemen Bob Robertson and Aldo Guidolin, and forwards Jimmy Bartlett, Bruce Cline, Don “Bones” Raleigh and Ray Ross.

Other former Reds expected are Hall of Fame members Ferny Flaman and Milt Schmidt, goalies Al Bentley, Ross Brooks and Gil Mayer, defensemen Ian Anderson, Ray Clearwater and Marty Gateman, and forwards Stan Baluik, Serge Boudreault, Bo Elik, Bobby Leduc, Yves Locas, Howie Menard, Don McKenney, George Ranieri, Chuck Scherza and Gene Ubriaco.

The event is open to both members and non-members of the society. For more information about reservations, fans are invited to call the society’s office at 401-247-2666.
