Providence, RI (February 5, 2007): Dan Poliziani, one of the most popular hockey players locally during the early 1960s, will join ex-Reds greats at center ice in celebration “R. I. Reds Night” at the Dunkin Donuts Center this Friday starting at 7:05 p.m.. The Providence Bruins play that evening against the Worcester Sharks and will pay tribute to the old R. I. Reds hockey team that entertained pro hockey fans here for 51 years, 1926 through 1977. Poliziani was one of the fastest skaters in the American Hockey League during his five-year tenure here from 1958 through 1962. His best season came in 1959-60 when he scored 30 goals for the Reds. Poliziani, who now lives near Rochester, NY, will join six other ex-Reds when the P-Bruins unveil a banner honoring the seven championships the team won in both the Can-Am and American Hockey Leagues. Those players will be Hall of Famers Milt Schmidt, Ferny Flaman and Gil Mayer, plus Chuck Scherza, Bobby Leduc, Serge Boudreault and Marty Gateman. He will also be part with the others in a book signing for “Hockey in Providence,” a history of pro hockey here in Rhode Island starting in 1926. The signings will be between periods of the game. Tickets reserved for the R. I. Reds Heritage Society for its members will be available Friday night at a specially marked table in the main lobby from 5 only to 6:45 PM. Those tickets are sold out. General public tickets may be obtained by calling 401-273-5000 or visiting the P-Bruins Web site at providencebruins.com. |
