Society Announces Special Membership Offer

Providence, RI (2/3/2012): In honor of Zellio Toppazzini being elected into the AHL Hall of Fame, the RI Reds Heritage Society is making the month of February "Topper Month," with a special membership offer.

R. I. Reds Add Ex-Players to 'Munch & Crunch' Set for PC on Feb. 4

Providence, RI (1/21/2012): The R. I. Reds Heritage Society has added two former pro hockey players to its group that will attend its 9th Annual “Munch & Crunch.” The event will be presented again this year on the campus at Providence College where the men’s hockey Friars will host the University of New Hampshire at Schneider Arena at 7 p.m., on Saturday, February 4.

R. I. Reds 9th Annual “Munch & Crunch” Set for PC on Feb. 4

Providence, RI (1/4/2012): The R. I. Reds Heritage Society’s 9th Annual “Munch & Crunch” will be presented again this year on the campus at Providence College where the men’s hockey Friars will host the University of New Hampshire at Schneider Arena at 7 p.m., on Saturday, February 4.

Heritage Society Unveils History Exhibit

Providence, RI (11/13/2011): The Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society and the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority unveiled the newly completed Rhode Island Reds exhibit during a dedication ceremony and press conference Sunday, November 13th, 2011 at its new home, the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Topper Named to AHL Hall of Fame

Providence, RI (11/10/2011): Rhode Island Reds legend Zellio Toppazzini is one of four people selected for induction into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame as the Class of 2012, the AHL announced.

R. I. Reds Heritage Society Announces Player Roster for 11th Reunion

Providence, RI (7/27/2011): Led by Hockey Hall of Fame members Johnny Bower and Ferny Flaman, the R, I, Reds Heritage Society has announced that it expects 34 ex-Reds and other pro hockey greats to attend its 11th annual reunion weekend, August 5-7.

Reds Team of 1955-56 Ranked Number One by Hockey Gurus

Providence, RI (7/8/2011): The Society for International Hockey Research (SIHR) has judged that the "greatest minor-league season of all-time” was produced by the 1955-56 Rhode Island Reds, who finished first American Hockey League regular season and became Calder Cup champions

Bower, Cline and MacQueen to receive 2011-12 Tops Awards

Providence, RI (7/1/2011): The R. I. Reds Heritage Society has named its “Tops Award” selections for 2011-12: Johnny Bower, Bruce Cline and Eddie MacQueen – all great players and generous volunteers for worthy charities in their native Canadian communities. The award’s conditions match the criteria needed to earn the honor dedicated to the memory of the late Zellio “Topper” Toppazzini, voted the greatest player in the Reds’ 51-year history.

Lou Lamoriello to Receive Special Reds Society Award

Providence, RI (6/24/2011): In recognition of his enormous hockey accomplishments, the R. I. Reds Heritage Society will present Lou Lamoriello with its second “R. I. Native-Born Hockey Achievement Award” at the society’s 11th annual reunion at Goddard State Park in Warwick on August 7. Last year’s inaugural award was awarded to ex-Olympian goaltender, Sara DeCosta.

Historic R. I. Auditorium Replica Plaque Now on Sale to the Public

Providence, RI (6/3/2011): The Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society has announced it will now offer to the general public the purchase of a replica of the commemorative plaque that stands at the site of the old R. I. Auditorium, 1111 North Main Street in Providence, home of the R. I. Reds pro hockey team for 46 years.

R. I. Reds 11th Annual Reunion Slated for August 5-7

Providence, RI (5/12/2011): The 700-member R. I. Reds Heritage Society has announced it will hold its 11th Annual Reunion Weekend, Friday, August 5, through Sunday, August 7. As in the past, the Sunday reunion event will be at the historic Carousel Building at Goddard State Park in Warwick, RI, starting at 12 noon.

American Hockey League mourns loss of Harry Pidhirny

Providence, RI (12/22/2010): The American Hockey League is mourning the passing of Harry Pidhirny, one of the league’s all-time greats and a member of the American Hockey League Hall of Fame’s incoming Class of 2011.

Providence, RI (12/20/2010): The R. I. Reds Heritage Society and the R. I. Interscholastic League (RIIL) have agreed to inaugurate an annual “R. I. Reds High School Hockey Honors Award” program this 2010-11 season.

Providence, RI (10/9/2010): The Springfield Falcons invited the R. I. Reds Heritage Society to participate in pre-game ceremonies for the team’s 2010-11 home opener against the Providence Bruins at the MassMutual Center in Springfield on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Arena Commemorative Plaque to be Unveiled at 1111 on July 31

Providence, RI (7/23/2010): Fond memories, many cheers and possibly a few tears will abound the morning of Saturday, July 31, at 1111 North Main Street in Providence – former home of the Rhode Island Reds professional hockey team from 1926 through 1972.

Mayer and Robertson to Receive “Tops Awards” August 1

Providence, RI (7/16/2010): American Hockey League “Hall of Fame” goaltender Gil Mayer and long-time durable defenseman Bob Robertson have been voted by the R. I. Reds Heritage Society as recipients of the 2010-11 “Tops Award.”

Providence, RI (5/26/2010): “When the Reds Ruled the Roost,” presented by Chelo’s restaurants and narrated by the late great Boston Bruins’ legendary announcer Fred Cusick, has won the New England Emmy Award for best one-time sports television special in 2009.
